A beautiful 1849 antique book of common prayer, printed at the university press, oxford, during the early victorian period.the volume contains the traditional book of common prayer of the united church of england and ireland, together with the psalter or psalms of david. it also includes a separately titled new version of the psalms of david, by n. brady and n. tate, dated mdcccxlix (1849).the book retains its attractive period binding with elaborate gilt decoration around the covers. the inside cover is also marked “bound by hayday”, an interesting feature of the binding. there are handwritten inscriptions from previous ownership, adding to its history and character.contents include morning and evening prayer, holy communion, the psalter, prayers and thanksgivings, baptism, matrimony, burial services, articles of religion and other church of england liturgical material.details:* date: 1849* printed at oxford university press
