An attractive 1854 victorian new testament and book of common prayer, bound together in a compact leather volume with substantial decorative metal fittings and clasp.printed in london by g. e. eyre and w. spottiswoode, printers to queen victoria, both the book of common prayer and new testament title pages are dated m.dccc.liv (1854).the volume combines two important works of victorian christian worship: the book of common prayer, including the psalter or psalms of david, with the new testament of our lord and saviour jesus christ.particularly striking is the binding. the dark leather boards are protected by decorative metal corner mounts extending around the edges, together with a substantial hinged metal clasp. the page edges are gilt, giving the closed volume an impressive period appearance.internally, the volume includes morning and evening prayer, the psalms, church services and rites, the ordering of priests and deacons, and the complete new testament through revelation.details:* date: 1854* new testament

approximately 13 cm high × 8.5 cm wide × 3 cm deepcondition:
antique condition with expected signs of age and use. the leather has rubbing and surface wear, while the metal fittings and clasp show age-related tarnishing and patination. the gilt page edges have dulled with age. internally there is toning, spotting, staining and occasional wear, with heavier wear visible to some pages. please study the photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.a distinctive 170-year-old victorian devotional volume, with the combination of the 1854 new testament, book of common prayer, psalms, gilt edges and elaborate metalwork making it particularly attractive as a display or collection piece.
