A beautiful 1859 victorian new testament bible and book of common prayer, presented in an ornate embossed binding with a substantial decorative brass clasp.printed in london by g. e. eyre and w. spottiswoode, printers to the queen’s most excellent majesty, this attractive volume dates from the reign of queen victoria.the volume combines two important works in one book: the book of common prayer, including the psalter or psalms of david, together with the new testament of our lord and saviour jesus christ.the book of common prayer title page is dated m.dccc.lix (1859) and includes the royal coat of arms. the separate new testament title page is also dated 1859.one of the most striking features is the binding. the dark cover has an elaborate embossed victorian design, complemented by a large decorative brass clasp wrapping around the fore-edge. the page edges have an aged gilt/golden appearance, giving the book considerable antique character.details:* date: 1859* victorian era

* approx. 12.5 cm high × 9 cm wide × 3 cm deepcondition: this is an authentic victorian volume showing considerable age-related wear. the binding has rubbing and wear around the edges and corners. the brass clasp displays age-related patination and tarnishing. the page edges have darkened considerably, while the interior pages show toning, foxing, staining and other signs of age and use. there is also some wear around the hinges and page edges. please examine all photographs carefully as they form part of the condition description.despite its age and wear, this remains a particularly attractive 167-year-old victorian religious volume, with the combination of the new testament, book of common prayer and ornate brass clasp giving it strong decorative and historical appeal.
