An early 1863 edition of robert young’s translation of the holy bible, containing the old and new covenants and translated directly from the original languages.published by a. fullarton & company of edinburgh, dublin and london, the title page is dated mdccclxiii (1863) and credits robert young, the biblical scholar best known for the translation that became known as young’s literal translation.rather than simply reproducing the familiar wording of the king james bible, young sought to provide a more literal rendering of the original hebrew and greek. this makes the volume particularly interesting for collectors of early bible translations and the history of english biblical scholarship.the bible is presented in a handsome dark green binding with raised spine bands and gilt lettering reading holy bible – new translation – young. the page edges are gilt, giving the volume an attractive period appearance.the volume contains both the old and new covenants, together with supplementary material including chronological information relating to the books of scripture.details:* date: 1863* robert young
