An early 18th-century book of common prayer with the psalms, preserved in a wonderfully aged leather binding and bearing the unmistakable character of centuries of use.the volume contains the traditional church of england book of common prayer, including the calendar and table of lessons, the order for morning prayer, scripture readings and the psalms.the text retains distinctive early typography, including the historic long “ſ” character, immediately giving the pages the appearance associated with books printed during the 1700s.bound in dark leather with surviving blind-tooled decoration, the book measures an impressive 21.5 cm tall and approximately 6 cm thick. the heavily aged pages, worn binding and early handwritten ownership inscription give the volume considerable historical character.an old ownership inscription inside the front board appears to read “jane lilburn.” the identity of the former owner has not been established, but the inscription forms an interesting part of the book’s history and provenance.dimensions:21.5 cm high × 13 cm wide × 6 cm deepconditionthis volume is in heavily worn and distressed antique condition.the leather binding displays extensive rubbing, deterioration and losses. there is substantial wear to the page edges, together with tears, creasing, staining, marks, losses and old repairs. several photographed leaves show significant damage and missing portions.the binding and hinges are fragile and the volume should be handled carefully.the book has not been collated page by page and completeness cannot be guaranteed. the original dated title/imprint page has not been identified, so an exact publication year, printer and place of printing cannot currently be confirmed.please examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.despite its distressed state, this is a highly atmospheric piece of 18th-century english religious history, retaining the visual character of an early georgian prayer book that has clearly been used across generations.
