An antique king james version holy bible containing the complete old and new testaments, published in london by eyre and spottiswoode (bible warehouse), ltd., his majesty’s printers.this is an unusually substantial reference edition housed in a full yapp binding, where the flexible cover extends beyond the page block to protect the edges of the bible. the front is gilt stamped with an anchor emblem and the words “the boys’ brigade.”the bible contains extensive marginal references, a concordance to the old and new testaments, and a particularly interesting illustrated reference section relating to the history and transmission of the biblical text. illustrations shown include the codex amiatinus, coptic manuscript material, hittite inscriptions and babylonian archaeological artefacts.the page edges are finished in red.there is a handwritten presentation inscription to the front dated 13 march 1927, connecting the bible with the 14th newcastle boys’ brigade. this provides an interesting piece of documented period provenance.details:* holy bible* complete old and new testaments
